Despite rain, Taste of Rhinebeck raises $26,000 for local hospital

Rhinebeck – Hunger beat out staying dry at the 13th annual Taste of Rhinebeck culinary crawl, which raised nearly $26,000 for Northern Dutchess Hospital.

The steady drizzle of rain on Tuesday, April 25, did not dissuade the about 400 attendees from enjoying an edible evening with samples of food and drinks at 27 walkable village locations.

While raising money, and sporting galoshes and umbrellas, attendees filled up on lobster mac and cheese from the Tavern at the Beekman Arms, a grilled chicken slider from Buns Rhinebeck, a Tea-A-Rita from The Water Oracle and a s’mores-flavored beer from Grand Cru.

“It’s wonderful when people turn out when the weather is ideal, but it’s extraordinary when people support your event when it’s raining,” Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation Executive Director Dawn Morrison said. Proceeds will be used to expand healthcare programs and for building improvements at the hospital and affiliated nursing center, The Thompson House.

“Not only did participants brave the conditions, the vendors who donated the samples also didn’t let a few puddles stand in their way,” Morrison said. “We feel very proud of our community and grateful for all they do for the hospital.”
